Theodor Seuss Geisel, more commonly known as Dr. Seuss, was born in Springfield, Massachusetts. He supported his family by drawing and advertising for companies like General Electric, NBC, and Standard Oil. On the way back from a Europe trip, Dr. Seuss got the inspiration to write a poem which later turned into his first book, “And To Think I Saw It On Mulberry Street.” As World War 2 approached he started writing political cartoons with his views that opposed fascism and communism. After the war ended, Dr. Seuss returned to writing childrens’ books. He wrote “The Cat in The Hat” using words that many kids needed to know, due the illiteracy rates in schools were going down because the children didn’t have books they liked to read. Most of Dr. Seuss’ books expressed his views on anti-materialism, anti-authoritarianism, and even his pro life views.
